About us
BACSGAW is a not-for-profit community volunteers based organisation dedicated to supporting the Bhutanese refugee community in the Albury-Wodonga region. Today, this region is home to more than 2,000 Bhutanese Australians, with over 10,000 living across Australia. Since its inception, BACSGAW has played a vital role in community integration, cultural preservation, and socio-economic advancement through a wide range of initiatives, including advocacy, education, mental health support, and sport.
Our Mission, Vision and Values:
Purpose:
- Provide opportunities to support each other and share ideas about what works well for making community life easier, healthier and happier in a new country.
- Help to enable community members become part of an inclusive Australian Society seeking to learn and find employment, create better relationship and to feel proud of being in Australian Society and be a part of positive contribution.
- Provide opportunities for relationship building within and between communities.
- To Coordinate with different skill development services and refugee settlement liaisons officers to provide job related training and help to make self-dependent.
What we do:
- Link with mainstream communities by identifying communities’ needs.
- Support our community members in the transition process by sharing one another’s knowledge, skills and expertise.
- Respect and enjoy Australian culture and seek to keep our own culture alive that gives members a critical sense of identity and belonging.
- Raise awareness around social processes of stigmatisation through advocacy.
- Seek to bring community members together, to strengthen the bonds between community members and to emphasise the idea of interdependence rather than independence.
- Seek to engage youth with sporting activities
- Seek to organise entertaining activities to senior member of the community
- Promote basic communicative language to younger children to enable communication with Mum and dad and grandparents.
- Act as a bridge to break the language barriers to access community members’ needs.

Our mission is to support, advocate, and assist in promoting the better and easier way of living in Australia and to enable community members to become part of an inclusive Australian society by increasing awareness, empowering and working collaboratively within an organization, and collaborating across agencies.

The voice of every community member be listened and respected.
